NZ Holiday Park
FAQ
We have provided a list of some frequently asked questions about our unique NZ holiday park.
What do you mean by covered complex site?
Jacksons Campervan Retreat Holiday Park is proud to say we are unique, a New Zealand first and an innovation award winner of Holiday Accommodation Parks of NZ for our covered complex sites.
The large purpose-built barns provide a covered retreat for when the West Coast rains or the alpine snow come. Campervans and tents park or pitch in private bays, but don’t let that put you off! Each bay has a window so you’re not going to miss out on our stunning alpine yet rural contrasting landscape. Even under cover you’ll have views of the New Zealand landscape, whether it's snow-capped mountains on one side, or waterfalls and native rainforest full of New Zealand birdlife and wildlife on the other.
Your bay window will overlook the mighty Taramakau River and TranzAlpine Railway. Each bay of the covered complex also provides a mat, water and power. There is room for you to move about and even enjoy our mobile BBQs.
How many sites are available?
We have 40 sites in total. Our philosophy is quality, not quantity. We have 8 unique covered-bay powered sites, 22 powered each with with own lawn area and 10 non-powered nestled up high in native bush.
Do you have self contained units?
We have a one two-storey self-contained unit available, with three separate bedrooms upstairs. Sleeps from 1 to 9 people, and has a cosy log fire. Includes coffee, tea, milk and sugar, and full linen is also supplied.
Do you have tent sites?
Yes, 10 sites are available spread over 2 acres. Spacious, grassed and nestled in an area of native bush with panoramic views. Fresh drinking water is available at various points.
Do the sites all have views?
Yes, we have used the natural formation of this chosen site with integrity and protection of the environment to delight our guests with commanding views.
Does it rain and/or snow all the time?
No. The winter months at Jacksons are usually clear crisp sunny days. Snow will only at times settle to the ground and is generally gone when the day’s sun comes. In winter the alpine ranges and mountains are snow capped with a sprinkling to the ground which looks stunning! When it rains on the coast it is heavy rain and can last for some days in the spring. Summer is very hot and it can rain on and off, however not for days on end. This is why our unique covered sites are extremely handy as you can holiday in comfort whatever the West Coast weather is like.
Do I need chains in Winter?
Chains will often be provided by campervan hire companies, but they are rarely required. Winter is the most spectacular time in the alpine national park area.
Is the drinking water safe?
Yes! The water is 100% pure mountain fed, with filters to trap debris. We also pride ourselves here in being chemical free and the natural water supply is no exception.
Can I hire a tent, airbed, sleeping bag or pillow?
Yes, all these items are available for hire.
Are your powered sites on a hard surface?
There are 22 large individual sites with their own lawn area, each one with stunning views. The 8 covered power sites are also on a hard surface. Tents can also be pitched on this surface.
Are all your amenities smoke free?
Yes. Smoking is only permitted in outside areas in accordance with New Zealand law.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, by prior arrangement. We have some rules so please enquire when you book.
What is your check out time?
Check out is at 10:00am unless by prior arrangement.
Do I pay for my showers?
As our guest your tariff includes free use of all on-site facilities, except for the internet kiosk, washing machines and clothes dryers.
Is the Campervan Retreat/Holiday Park suitable for children?
Both parents and children love it at Jacksons Retreat. The areas are all open with good visibility. There are two creeks to paddle in set amongst native rainforest. Parents need to be aware of this with smaller children, and supervision is required.
Is there a Restaurant / Bar / Café nearby?
